Inter-school chess meet begins

JAMMU: Inter-school chess tournament, part of the chess in school programme initiated by All J and K Chess Association, started on Friday at Tiny Tots School, Sainik Colony, here.
Around 500 student players drawn from nearly 20 educational institutions are taking part in this competition, a handout issued by the association here today informed.
The opening day witnessed competition among boys and girls sections representing class one to class eighth. Earlier, the competition was declared open by former Minister, Yashpal Kundal, who was accompanied by President of the Association, Atul Kumar Gupta.
Also present were Principal of the host Tiny Tots School, Dr Vikram Handa, Taranvir Singh Gujral, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal and Raj Kumar as guests. The competition was officiated by Vivek and Ajit.
Meanwhile, the competition for those senior boys and girls from class ninth to 12th shall take place tomorrow at the same venue.
Important to mention here that the winners of this event shall get cash prizes worth Rs 10,000.
