Inter-district burglars’ gang busted; fake currency, jewellery recovered

POONCH: Police achieved a major success by busting a theft racket and subsequently arresting accused involved. This is one of the biggest busts’ for the District Police.
With the arrest of kingpins and recovery of valuables including gold and silver worth lakhs, the Poonch Police busted a gang of inter-district burglars active for some two years.
Addressing a press conference in Poonch, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch , J.S Johar termed the development a major breakthrough.
Giving details SSP said that over the last two years a large number of burglaries were reported from across the district. Subsequently, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by DySP Hqtr Poonch Mohan Lal Sharma including SHO Poonch Jatinder Raina under the supervision of ASP Poonch Masroor Mir was constituted by him to crack the theft cases.
The SIT worked hard and zeroed in on a suspect . On arrest he was put to sustained questioning in which he confessed resorting to burglaries and also led to the arrest of other members of his gang,” SSP said.
SSP informed that the gang was active in many districts for the past few months. From commercial establishments to residences, the gang had committed burglaries at various places including the burglary in District Court Complex Poonch. After stealing the items, the gang used to sell these at cheaper rates.
Upon their disclosure the property worth lakhs in the form of gold and silver ornaments , 50,000 rupees cash and Rs 1,87,000 fake Indian currency notes were recovered. Further investigation into the matter was going on , SSP Poonch said.
Further recoveries and arrests of accomplices, abettors and receivers of stolen property are expected in coming days,” SSP said adding, “With these arrests and recoveries, at least five cases of burglary in Poonch District alone are expected to be solved.”
