INTACH organises heritage conservation camp

JAMMU: To motivate and sensitise the students of architecture field towards conservation of heritage sites and their restoration, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Jammu Chapter organised a motivational camp.
The camp was organised in the conference hall of Government Polytechnic College Jammu. The students were motivated to join the heritage conservation movement and to take part in various activities initiated by INTACH to increase their knowledge and provide exposure.
Principal of the College, Arun Bangotra appreciated the efforts of INTACH Jammu Chapter for organising this motivational camp.
Convener INTACH Jammu Chapter, S.M Sahni briefed the students and the faculty about the activities undertaken in Jammu including preparation of DPRs of Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex, Zorawar Singh Fort Reasi, Hiranagar Fort and Lakhanpur Fort. “The restoration work of all these heritage complexes is in progress by the concerned departments. Various other profiles for the conservation of heritage sites including Poonch House, GGM Science College, Purmandal, Uttarbehni, Raghunath Temple, Shri Sumbli and Kolkandoli Nagrota Temples have also been submitted by INTACH”, he informed.
Kuldeep Wahi, Member Core Group explained the important features of heritage as tourism component which helps in boosting the economy of the local population.
C.M. Seth Life Member of INTACH and Chairman WWF J and K Chapter briefed the participants about rich cultural heritage, its evolution and bounding in the society. “The reservation of tangible of intangible heritage is the need of the hour especially through the younger generation”, he added.
Arch Hamler Arora, Head of Archeologist Department of the College while proposing a vote of thanks, assured that their institution as well as students will ensure that Heritage Conservation Movement be brought forward to save State’s culture.
