JAMMU: Elated with his innovative and revolutionary measures bearing fruits, Mayor of Jammu city, Rajinder Sharma has informed that Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has earned a whooping 1.44 crore revenue by a “single master stroke”.
Addressing a jam packed press conference at his office on Friday, the Mayor said that about 5000 hoardings, of dimensions varying from 2 by 3 to 2 by 4, hanging from electric poles in the city were removed by JMC authorities after which the 170 sites of 20 by 10, and 7 Variable Message Display (VMD) sites of JMC started earning revenue.
“From this, on an average, we used to get Rs. 12 lakh revenue a month earlier but our present action hiked and doubled this amount making it Rs. 24 lakh making its per month taking the annual figures to Rs. 1.44 crore,” Mayor Sharma told reporters.
“Surprisingly the CAPEX expenditure for all the 75 Wards in the year 2018 used to be Rs. 1.43 crore and our just a single stroke has increased our revenue to more than that,” he maintained adding that this money shall now be used for public welfare while earlier it used to go to the pockets of officers.
The Mayor reiterated that when he joined as the helmsman of the Urban Local Body (ULB) it was his commitment to remain answerable to every penny of the public and to look for ways to increase revenue of JMC.
“With this changed work culture, transparency and accountability in the ULB is increasing day-by-day and public confidence is also increasing on the system which is a good sign of healthy democracy,” the Mayor continued.
He also said that with the inspirations from the working style of PM Modi, more changes in the ULB shall be there in very near future so that public may enjoy all the facilities of a developed city.
