Insensitiveness towards Veer Chakra awardees

Dear Editor,
It is a matter of concern that how the political pundits and even the administration takes the opportunity of the days of martyrs of the Nation to show their concern with lengthy speeches and hollow promises. One can well understand about political pundits, as they are habitual of such hollow promises but when the commitments of the administrative officers also find the similar pattern, it becomes the matter of concern. A similar situation is prevailing in Udhampur. Long way back on 16th of December a colorful function was held near Town Hall Udhampur at ‘Shradhanjali Sthal’ to pay homage to the martyrs of 1971 war, attended by families of the martyrs in addition to the MoS, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur and others.
On the occasion former-MoS announced the construction of a shed at the place and at the same time Deputy Commissioner Udhampur also announced to release the fund for erection of statue of Major Narain Singh, a 1971 VC awardees and to name one of the chowk of Udhampur as Major Narain Singh Chowk. Following this announcement of DC Udhampur, a memorandum by ‘Krishan Singh Memorial Welfare committee, Urlian’ was submitted to DC Udhampur for meeting out similar treatment in respect of Late Krishan Singh Jamwal, also a VC awardee of 1948, which was responded by the officer in a positive way with the directions to Tehsildar Udhampur and Executive Officer MC Udhampur for recommendations for site and Chowk. The members of the committee met both the officers Sapna Kotwal tehsildar and Kamal Chalotra Executive Officer MC, as per directions of DC.
No any further progress intimated after repeated requests and it appears that both the officers are sitting over the files for the reasons best known to them and also both these officers don’t carry good opinion in the public, about their way of working. This was further followed by personal meeting with Deputy Commissioner. All announcements and commitments on the subject failed to see the light of the day. Such type of announcements which never turn to be reality especially for the martyrs should be stopped at all levels, as it hurts the feelings of the families of the martyrs, and it amounts to making mockery of the sacrifices by the martyrs.
The political leaders just remain vibrant on such occasions to register their much concern for the martyrs only to get applause as a vote bank ‘Rajniti’ nothing else.
The administration should also refrain from such commitments which they are not able to meet as it damages their reputation. Both these players should remain silent owing to appeal from the novel souls of the martyrs that, “Rehne Do Hamein Andhero Ke Saey Mein, Meri Kurbani Se Kahin Tum Ghabra Na Jao. Kahin Achchi Hai Surat B Sirat Meri, Darr Hai Tumeh Kahin Koi Ehsas Tumhe Jaga N Jaey”.
Mahadeep Singh Jamwal
Udhampur.
