Inheriting legacy: Lal Singh’s PSO goes berserk, shoots youth
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: The adage Kharbooza Kharboozay Ko Dekh Kar Rang Pakadta Hai fits well with the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Choudhry Lal Singh, former Congress minister and Member Parliament; and now a so-called senior BJP leader, who struck and sprayed bullets on a youth in a fit of rage under the influence of liquor.
Known for his acid tongue and now infamous for somersault after being denied ticket by the Congress, Ch Lal Singh is keeping up his brand by bequeathing his temperament to those surrounding him, security personnel included.
The public memory is still afresh which choicest invectives used by Lal Singh against Narendra Modi, the infamous one being his contrast with Nehru-Gandhi family. Lal Singh had said in his typical style that Modi or any of the BJP leader was nowhere close to the grandeur of Gandhi family.
Then an ace Gandhi loyalist, Lal Singh got strayed after being denied ticket in the April-May Lok Sabha elections. He rebelled and embraced the BJP which readily took him in its lap to defeat high profile Ghulam Nabi Azad. He assisted the BJP overtly and covertly in defeating Azad in his home turf.
Now that he has gone saffron, his staff feels within their rights to do whatever they like.
According to reports, the PSO of the former minister fired at a Bishnah youth in under the influence of liquor.
Reliable sources told STATE TIMES that PSO Balraj Singh fired upon a youth Sunil Kumar, son of Ramesh Chander, resident of Shahpur when he dared the cop for creating nuisance in public while consuming liquor in a car. Enraged Balraj took out his service revolver, brandished at the youth in a threatening posture and actually fired. This stirred panic in the area and the injured youth was rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in a serious condition. After a massive manhunt, Balraj was apprehended by Bishnah Police.
