Infusion mediation techniques with traditional system would beneficial for litigating parties: Justice Tashi Rabstan

LEH: The Mediation and Conciliation Committee, High Court of J&K and Ladakh in collaboration with Ladakh Legal Services Authority organized one day awareness programme on Mediation for Public Representatives, Heads of NGOs, Reputed Civil Society Members, Educationists, Panel Lawyers and PLVs on Sunday at Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Choglamsar, Leh.
The programme was inaugurated by Brig. (Rtd) Dr. B. D. Mishra, Lieutenant Governor, UT of Ladakh in the presence of The Chief Justice (A) Tashi Rabstan, High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Chairman, Mediation and Conciliation Committee of High Court of J&K and Ladakh), Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Advisor to LG, UT Ladakh and Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, ADGP Ladakh.
In his inaugural address, the LG said that the history of Ladakh is witness to the concept of Mediation, which is deep rooted in the society and all the disputes untill recent past were used to be settled amicably by the religious heads and village headmen and rarely the people would knock the doors of the Courts for resolution of their issues and hopes that with the kind of initiative taken by the Chief Justice (A), Ladakh would go far to achieve the benefits of Mediation which would help in making Ladakh a litigation free area in the Country.
The Chief Justice (A) Justice Tashi Rabstan in his special address highlighted the existence of traditional system of dispute resolution practiced in Ladakh by religious heads and village headmen and said that infusion of the techniques and tool of Mediation with the traditional system would be substantially beneficial for the society in general and the litigating parties in particular.
He said that the Resource Persons Veena Ralli and Senior Advocate J.P. Singh are the best among the Mediators not only within the Country but outside also.
Justice Tashi emphasized the need to imbibe Mediation Techniques taught today by the experts during the Technical Sessions for optimal results.
He said that the programme is being organized for the Representatives of people as in a close-knit society like Ladakh, they play a crucial role in holding strong bond in the society.
Justice Tashi also laid stress on the need to organize such programme at Block level for the benefit of masses.
Tashi Gyalson (Adv.), Chief Executive Councillor, Leh expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice for organizing the programme which is second in the UT of Ladakh.
He said that the resolution of disputes by way of Mediation would revive the bonding among people as in Mediation results in win-win situation for the parties besides being time and money saver.
Veena Ralli Adv. Senior Trained Mediation, Organizing Secretary, Samadhan Delhi in her address during the inaugural sessions gave an overview of the concept of Mediation.

Rajender Sapru, Coordinator, Mediation and Conciliation Committee of High Court of J&K and Ladakh welcomed the dignitaries while Spalzes Angmo, Member Secretary Ladakh Legal Services Authority presented formal vote of thanks. Phuntsog Angmo, Secretary DLSA, Leh conducted the programme.
