All India Police Hockey Championship to begin from Dec 10

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police to host eight-day All India Police Hockey Championship starting from 10th to 16th December at KK Hakku Stadium and University of Jammu Ground, here.
Giving the details, Singh said that All India Police Sports Control Board, New Delhi has assigned JKP the responsibility to organize 65th All India Police Hockey Championship-2016.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Headquarters, V.K Singh told reporters that 26 teams representing different states and Central police organisations of the country would take part in 38 matches being played in the tournament. To ensure arrangements for the championship, he said, various committees were constituted.
The conduct committee is headed by S.A Watali IGP Armed, Jury of Appeal headed by J.P Singh IGP Civil Military Liaison, Accommodation by Danesh Rana IGP Jammu Zone, Souvenir Printing by Muneer Khan IGP crime and Opening and Closing by Alok Kumar DIG Armed, he said.
The opening ceremony will be graced by the Chief Guest, Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister who will inaugurate the Championship in the presence of Guest of Honour, Syed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari, Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation and Revenue and other dignitaries, ADGP informed.
For smooth conduct of the Championship, J&K Police has constituted an Organizing Committee headed by Director General of Police, K. Rajendra Kumar, ADGP (Armed) J and K L Mohanti, is Organizing Secretary, Special DG, ADGP Hqrs. and other ADsGP are members. IGP Yoginder Koul is convener for the Championship.
The Hockey Championship shall be conducted on league-cum-knock-out basis as per rules and regulations of All India Police Sports Control Board and Hockey India, he said.
The matches shall be played at K K Hakku Stadium and due to tight schedule, few preliminary league pool matches shall be played at Jammu University Hockey Ground, he added.
In this Championship 26 teams shall be participating which include 520 players and 200 officials. The participating teams are Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, BSF, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, CISF, CRPF, Haryana, ITBP, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Orrisa, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, RPF, SSB, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, West Bengal and J and K.
Various International players namely Sandeep Singh from Haryana Police, Arjuna Awardee Rajpal Singh and Olympian Gurbaj Singh of Punjab Police shall be seen in action during the Championship, he said.
He said JKP has organised various national sporting events earlier in different disciplines including All India Police Football Championship, All India Police Wrestling Cluster and National Athletic Meet.
Besides national level championships, the organisation has been organising a series of sporting activities in different parts of the state within and outside the department to promote sports culture.
