‘Committee on daily-wagers in J&K to submit report this month’

JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday hailed the strides taken by India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the country which was once under the shackles of the British rule has now overtaken the United Kingdom to become the fifth largest economy of the world.
Addressing a media conclave in Jammu this morning, the Lieutenant Governor dwelt upon a volley of subjects including the security situation and the economic scenario of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha said that the law and order situation has improved to a great extent in Kashmir and now the shutdown calls of the Hurriyat have no effect anywhere in Kashmir.
He said efforts are underway to establish peace in J&K while strict legal action will be taken against terrorists, their sympathisers and whosoever tries to disturb the atmosphere will not be spared at all. He said that successes have been registered in counter terror operations with no collatoral damages by the security forces.
“About 182 terrorists have been killed this year, 44 of whom were foreigners besides 89 terror modules have been busted,” he said, adding that some people always bargained to buy peace, but this will not happen now, peace will be established.
On regularisation of daily wagers, the Lieutenant Governor said the Government will soon take a decision on them after getting a report from the committee constituted for the purpose during the current month.
Sinha said Jammu and Kashmir is changing fast with the system working for the people. He said the system earlier used to work for a few people but today the scenario has altogether changed. Talking about the changes, he said that there is one teacher for 32 students in the country but one teacher for 14 students in Jammu. The forest and tree cover is 54 percent. The forest area and tree cover has also increased by 6 percent in the last two and a half years. The consumption of Capita Energy has also increased in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two and a half years, he added.
