India achieves self-reliance in defence equipment manufacturing, exports to 72 countries: MoS Defence

JAMMU: As part of nation-wide campaign to highlight the achievements of Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi Government’s nine years in office, Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhat on Monday said India has not only become self reliant in defence manufacturing equipment in the wake of major push given to this sector but also exports these to 72 countries across the world.
“It gives a sense of pride that India has become a major defence equipment exporter globally”, the Union Minister said while addressing a function to spell out the major achievements of the BJP Government, adding that this is reflection of Modiji’s Atamnirbhar Bharat that has instilled a sense of confidence among the people.
He said the nation has earned a respectable place in the comity of nations and the day is not far when India will emerge as Vishwa Guru.
Editor-in-Chief STATE TIMES Raj Daluja, Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, BJP J&K president Ravinder Raina, Chairperson Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi among others were present on the occasion.
The Union Minister dwelt in detail on the achievements in every sector with special emphasis on the initiatives taken during the recent years towards focused development of Jammu and Kashmir.
Enumerating some of these achievements, the Union Minister of State said these nine years have been dedicated to bring about inclusive, progressive and sustainable development across the country.
He said India has witnessed a monumental increase during these years in infrastructure development, as 74 airports, 15 AIIMS, 700 Medical colleges, and seven each IIT and IIMs were built across the country.
Scrapping of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya (UP) and the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity (dedicated to the architect of independent India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel) in Kevadia, Gujarat were also cited as major achievements of Modi Govt in the last nine years, he added.
Earlier, the Union minister visited the headquarters of ‘Project Sampark’ of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) here and reviewed the progress of works being undertaken for enhancing the strategic needs of the security forces, a defence spokesman said.
Bhatt was briefed in detail by chief engineer Brigadier Tejpal Singh on the entire panorama of works carried out ranging from enhancing defence potential of our forces as well as constructing and maintaining our strategic lines of communication, he said.
The Union minister of state for Defence was briefed on the use of new technologies for road construction, the spokesman said.
Bhatt was also briefed about various welfare measures undertaken for the entire rank and file, he said.
Bhatt appreciated the commendable work done by BRO personnel and also paid solemn homage to the bravehearts, the spokesman said.
