Imran Hussain's resignation as NDMC councillor acceptedNew Delhi:- North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has accepted AAP MLA Imran Hussain’s resignation as councillor after a controversy erupted over his holding two positions at same time.

NDMC has informed the State Election Commission about Hussain’s resignation as councillor and the seat of Ballimaran Ward lying vacant now.

In 2012, Imran successfully fought municipal corporation elections on an RJD ticket. In 2014, he as as AAP candidate contested the Assembly election from Ballimaran and won.

“We have received a letter from the NDMC stating that seat of Ballimaran seat ward has fallen vacant. After this, there are 23 municipal seats where we will soon conduct bypolls,” said a senior official of State Election Commission.

Newly-elected NDMC Mayor Ravinder Gupta said that keeping aside the political conflict, former mayor Yogendra Chandolia on April 24 accepted Hussain’s resignation as councillor despite the fact that he didn’t give his resignation within stipulated time period as per laid down procedures.

“Before Assembly poll, Hussain was councillor from Ballimaran ward. After becoming MLA, he was supposed to give resignation as councillor before February 26 this year, but he did not do so. However, former mayor Chandolia on April 24 accepted his resignation. We have informed the state election commission about this move,” Gupta said.

Despite several attempts, AAP MLA Hussain could not be contacted.
