Importance of right to vote emphasised
POONCH: A district-level SVEEP committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of District Election Officer, Poonch, M.H Malik on Friday, to chalk out the plan for systematic voters’ education and electoral participation in the district, in the conference hall of the DC office complex.
The District Election Officer at the outset emphasized the importance of the SVEEP programme especially in a district with a literacy rate below the national average.
It was decided in the meeting that Principle Degree College and Chief Education Officer will organize seminars, lectures, debates, quiz, pledges, rallies and inter-college competitions in the schools and colleges to inspire and motivate the students to take the message of importance of right to vote in every nook and corner of the district while warden Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostel Poonch was directed to organise awareness camps for Gujjar and Bakarwal mobile voters at Buffliaz at the time of return from the summer pastures.
ACD Poonch was directed to generate awareness about EVMs, NOTA, postal ballot voting, proxy voting and importance of vote in gram sabha. District Programme Officer, ICDS Project Poonch, would focus on the women voters through organizing women facilitation centres at Anganwadi centres in each village on every Sunday whereas District Social Welfare Officer was directed to organize awareness camps at tehsil headquarters for differently abled persons, destitute, senior citizens.
LDM Poonch was instructed to put banners in front of all the bank branches and ATMs and Khidmat centres. Similarly ARTO Poonch was asked to design posters which can be put on the vehicles to convey the message of right to vote to the commuters.
