New Delhi: Accounting regulator ICAI has landed in a soup over wrong depiction of Jammu and Kashmir in a map of India in its latest journal, forcing the statutory body to “regret” the deviation from the exact map.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has also corrected the map in the online edition of the monthly journal, after the deviation from the country’s official map was pointed out, including on social media platforms, although physical copies have already been distributed.

The journal, for the month of June, 2015, contained the picture of a globe on its cover page, which had the state of Jammu and Kashmir in a colour different from the rest of India, while the Pak-Occupied Kashmir was shown in the same colour as that of Pakistan.

The statutory body, established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, later said in a clarification that the picture on the cover page of the June edition of the Chartered Accountant Journal was “a mere artistic depiction of the ICAI’s global role in inclusive growth of the profession as stated in the caption on the cover page”.

“The global political map, including India’s map also was aimed to be only an artistic representation of India and in no manner depicts the exact maps.

“Perceived deviation, if any from the exact political map of India was purely unintentional. However, if the depiction of Indian map in any manner is perceived as not in conformity with political map of India and has hurt the sentiments of any reader, we at ICAI deeply regret the same with the commitment to be more careful in future,” it added.
