Housewife found hanging; relatives block NH

KATHUA: The Jammu – Pathankot National Highway remained closed for four hours on Sunday when parents and supporters of the deceased young housewife kept her body on road near Sain Mandir in village Gurha Mundia, Hiranagar and held a protest.
A large number of protesters kept body of young housewife Radha wife of Rohit Singh resident of Ward No 13, Hiranagar, district Kathua on road and blocked the National Highway at 12:20 PM alleging inaction on the part of Hiranagar Police to register an FIR and arrest the criminals.
According to the parents of the girl who was married one year back firstly in Court of Law and later solemnised according to the religious rites, was not acceptable to her in-laws because the girl belonged to Brahmin family while the boy was a Rajput. They alleged that the girl was killed by her in-laws and then hanged from the window during the night of 18th /19th March, 2016 and after locking the house they fled from the spot.
On receipt of information the police recovered body of the girl and shifted it to Sub District Hospital Hiranagar. After completing the legal formalities the body was handed over to her parents in the absence of her in-laws on 19th March, 2016. Parents of the girl and their supporters kept body of the girl on road and blocked the National Highway.
The SDPO Diwakar Singh tried to pacify the protesters and asked them to open the road but they did not agree to lift Dharna. The additional SP Kathua Khalil Poswal reached the spot and persuaded the protesters and assured them of proper inquiry into the case bringing out the factual position. On the assurance of Additional SP the protesters lifted the body and the road was opened at 4:15 PM.
The Additional SP Kathua while talking to State Times said that the police is committed to carry out proper investigation and provide justice.
