Housewife charred to death, parents allege foul play

BHADARWAH: A housewife was charred to death after a double story building, she was living in, at Thathri town of Doda District caught fire on Friday. The parents of the fire victim are alleging some foul play by her in laws.
The deceased has been identified as Shaista Begum (23) wife of Abdul Hamid a resident of village Bonjwah and at present they were residing at Thathri.
Besides the young lady, all the belongings and the first floor of the house was reduced to ashes in the devastating fire.
The incident came to light in the afternoon, when people coming after Friday prayers noticed huge flames from the roof of the double storied building at around 2:30 PM. They raised an alarm and tried to douse the flames with water but were unable to control it as by then entire house made up of dry wood had caught fire.
Later fire tenders and police reached the spot and controlled the spreading fire but by then first floor of the house in which the lady was trapped got completely damaged.
“The exact cause of fire has not been established yet as police is investigating the same. We are already on the job and SHO Thathri has started collecting the evidences. As of now we have not registered an FIR because we are waiting for the completion of medical formalities,” said ASP Bhadarwah Sargun Shukla.
People of Thathri town and parents of the deceased are reportedly alleging some foul play by her husband and in-laws and are demanding their immediate arrest.
“Parents and neighbours are alleging some foul play by the in-laws of the deceased, we are looking into the circumstances of the fire incident and have already started questioning,” ASP Shukla said adding that people need not panic, as if there is any foul play, the culprits will be booked under relevant sections.
