House catches fire; ornaments, household items gutted

RAJOURI: A house belonging to late Chief Planning Officer (CPO) has been reduced to ashes along with all the expensive household items including jewelry, gold, silver, clothes, furniture etc in suspicious devastating fire in the town.
Fire that broke out at about midnight when all the family members were out of town to attend a marriage function had burnt everything inside the house before the fire brigade team could reach.
“Exact reason behind the devastating fire couldn’t be established as the entire house along with costly items including cash, gold ornaments was reduced to ashes. As the family members were not present in the home , the information of inferno reached to us after the fire had engulfed the entire house” said a Fire Brigade official.
Late Abdul Majid Mir, ex-CPO was a resident of Mendhar in Poonch District but after his retirement he had constructed a house at Kheora, one of Rajouri Municipality Ward.
“Nothing has been left in the devastating fire which includes important documents including our State subjects, school certificates and degrees, death and dependent certificates of our late father, all service documents of our mother who is a teacher. Besides these important documents the cash, gold and silver ornaments, costly furniture, clothes etc were reduced to ashes ” said Moien Majid Mir, elder son of the late CPO.
He added as per our information the fire broke about at about midnight , when all the family members were out to attend a marriage function.
Reliable sources said that some foul play behind the suspicious fire couldn’t be ruled out. Police have registered a case FIR and started investigation keeping in view all the angles including sabotage.
