JAMMU: To impart awareness among the orchardists about Integrated Nutrient Management / Integrated Pest Management, two camps were conducted by HDO Satwari at Karan Bagh and Chatha in Satwari block here on Thursday.

On the directions of Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, Kirtan Singh Raina, DLSMS Entomology, Sanjeev Kumar and DLSMS Pomology, Ashwani Sharma gave a detailed account on the benefits of adoption of INM / IPM practices in their orchards. They advised the farmers to adopt INM practices for enriching the soil fertility through organic manures like vermin-compost, FYM etc and use bio-fertilizers like Azotobactor, Phosphobacteria, VAM, etc instead of inorganic fertilisers thereby improving texture and structure of soil. “By adoption of IPM practices, insect-pests and diseases can be controlled by installing insect traps, use of bio-pesticides such as Neem oil and cake and bio- control agents”, they added.

Tool kit sets were also distributed among the orchardists for performing pruning operations in their orchards.
