The first and only Marshal of the Air Force and the hero of the 1965 war with Pakistan has got recognition with the naming of an air base after his name. He and the first Field Marshal of the Indian Army, SHFJ Manekshaw, hero of the 1971 war, make a charismatic pair.
They brought Indians out of the agony and trauma of the 1962 debacle of war with China and put the nation on the path of self-esteem and glory with their victories in wars with Pakistan. They deserve the Bharat Ratna for their deeds of excellence.
