Hold DGPC elections soon: Sikh leaders

JAMMU: Sikh leaders on Tuesday condemned State Coalition for deferring District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC) elections time and again to hamper the progress of the community.
An amalgam of various Sikh Organisations including Sikh United Front, All India Sikh Student Federation (AISSF), Sikh Welfare Society, Sikh Naujawan Sabha besides Ex-Members of DGPC Jammu met here under the chairmanship of Mohinder Singh, Chief Organiser, Bhai Kanaya Nishkam Sewa Society J&K and condemned the State Govt. for not showing any interest in conducting DGPC elections after year 2003, which were due in 2008.
The Sikh leaders alleged that government nominated a committee under SRO 357-63-C which was challenged in the court of law and orders were passed to hold fresh elections but till date matter is lingering on. They also said that it is unfortunate that gurudwara wealth is being drained by indulging into unnecessary litigations. The Sikh leaders also discussed how the government has postponed the elections to benefit certain leaders having vested interests. They also discussed legal course undertaken during these years which led to present situation.
They also condemned the move of making Divisional Commissioner, Jammu responsible to perform Parkash Ustav of Guru Nanak Dev Ji on 6th November 2014. They said this is against Sikh Sangat Rules and does not conform to Akal Takht Hukmnama debarring non-Sikhs to organise religious celebrations.
They threatened the State Government that if it will not conduct DGPC elections soon, the Sikh Sangat will be left with no other option but to start an agitation.
Avtar Singh Khala, Surinder Singh Kala, Paramjit Singh, Kulwant Singh, Manmohan Singh, Rajinder, Gajjan Singh, Harpal Singh Prince, Kapur Singh Dutta, Tej Pal Singh, Kultar Singh and Charan Veer Singh were present.
