High speed winds, rain bring respite from scorching heat in Jammu

JAMMU: After witnessing unprecedented heat conditions and recording highest ever mercury levels of this season so far the rain gods smiled on ‘City of Temples’ bringing some respite to the residents on Tuesday evening.
In the evening high speed winds, coupled with showers, lashed various parts of the city bringing mercury levels significantly.
The mercury had earlier touched 43 degrees Celsius.
Though many parts of the city witnessed random power cuts during the day pleasant weather conditions in the evening brought smiles on the faces of local residents.
Control rooms set up by the Power Development Department received various calls from local residents as high speed winds had disrupted power supply in many areas.
Shortage of electricity and water supply added hardships of the local people. The streets and business centres wore deserted look during the day time because of high temperature.
Doctors too had cautioned general masses to remain indoors to prevent incidents of heat stroke and other weather related allergies.
According to latest weather forecast by Meteorological Department the pleasant weather in the city is likely to continue, with a few spells of rain and thundershowers.
