UDHAMPUR: Department of Indian Systems of Medicine organised a health awareness programme on ‘World Health Day 2016’ at village Panchayat Battal here on Thursday under the guidelines of Director General of Indian Systems of Medicine, J&K, Dr Abdul Kabir Dar.
As non-communicable diseases are on the surge, theme for World Health Day 2016 is ‘Beat the Diabetes’. Under National AYUSH Mission, Directorate General of Indian Systems of Medicine is already spreading the message of ‘Healthy Living’ especially in rural and unreached areas and giving public awareness on non-communicable diseases like Diabetes. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Rohit Gupta, Nodal Officer National AYUSH Mission, Jammu Division along with Dr. Anilkant Gupta, Assistant District Medical Officer Udhampur, Sarpanch Panchayat Halqa Battal, Gian Singh and Social Activist Ravi Shastri. In the programme, a team of experts headed by Dr. Rohit Gupta, delivered public awareness lectures on various health issues. He briefed public about AYUSH systems and their strengths in health promotion and disease prevention especially non-communicable diseases like Diabetes, Obesity and Cardiovascular Diseases, which are not only life consuming but also requires expensive and prolonged treatments. He emphasized upon the effectiveness of AYUSH systems in addressing these health challenges.
Dr. Aftab Iqbal Mir expert in Medicinal Plants Sector highlighted importance of various medicinal plants available in the area and various opportunities for farming communities in Medicinal Plant Sector. IEC Material on Medicinal plants as well as Non-communicable diseases was also distributed among the public. Dr. Arun Gupta, Expert in Yoga and Wellness delivered a lecture on Dincharya (Daily health regimen), Ritucharya (Seasonal Healthy Regimen), Yogcharya and Sadvrit (Yogic regimen and moral regimen of healthy living) for health promotion and prevention of non-communicable diseases . A demonstration of common and effective yogasans was also made.
Social Activist Ravi Shastri presented the vote of thanks. Later, a free AYUSH Medical camp was held at Village Battal wherein team of doctors and paramedics from District Udhampur, comprising Dr. Vilakshi Jamwal, Dr. Tilak Raj Gupta, Dr. Harbaksh Singh, Dr. Ramesh and Dr. Uttam Gupta provided treatment to 257 patients. Free AYUSH Medicines were also given to the patients. Patients requiring advanced AYUSH treatment were referred to AYUSH unit at District Hospital Udhampur.
