HCL Foundation organizes symposiums on the theme of ‘CSR for Nation Building’ in Jammu.

JAMMU: HCL Foundation, the CSR arm of HCL Technologies has hosted the first symposium for capacity building of NGOs on the theme of ‘CSR for Nation Building” in the series at Jawaharlal Nehru Udhyog Bhawan, Rail Head Complex, here on Tuesday.
The day-long event was attended by eminent personalities such as, Dr R.S Sharma, Director Industries and Commerce, Jammu, Dr Kavita Suri, Director and Head Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu and Dr Shafia Yaseen Wani, Assistant Professor (Rural Development) Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development (IMPARD).
Nidhi Pundhir, Director-CSR and Head-HCL Foundation, said, “Today’s event marks the second step towards our Pan-India symposiums. We hope that through the symposiums we will be able to positively contribute to capacity building of our NGOs working in remote rural locations and share ideas and solutions.”
Speaking on the HCL Grant, an ongoing cash award of Rs 5 crore to three NGOs in the areas of Education, Environment and Health, Nidhi Pundhir said, “This is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative through the HCL Foundation and it started in 2015, and we wanted to look at the valuable contributions made by Non-Governmental Organi-sations (NGOs).”
She said while we know that the government is based on three estates-the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, and we have always known about the role of a free media as the fourth estate, we defined non-governmental organisations as the fifth estate.
“We conceptualised the HCL Grant and it was open for all NGOs to apply, and the moment we opened up health and environment the number of applications and registrations grew significantly. We do a grant of Rs 5 crore each, and the recipient gets a Rs 5 crore grant for a specific three-five year project,” she added.
