HBET distributes scholarships to 600 rural children

JAMMU: Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) celebrated the academic achievement of its students through its 20th Annual Scholarship Distribution Function.
Over last twenty years 4,739 scholarships have been awarded with financial outlay of Rs 1.20 crore.
The Chief Guest, Kavinder Gupta, Speaker Legislative Assembly distributed the scholarships to students and offered them words of encouragement and emphasised the need to make the best use of the opportunity provided by the Trust.
80 per cent of the students are girls from rural areas and financially weak families. They travelled from distant villages of Arnia, Akalpur, Birpur, Chadwal, Doomi, DansaI, Jourian, Kanachak, Korejagir, Kandyal, Sunderbani, Hiranagar, Surinsar etc to participate in the function along with their families.
Reporting on the activities of the trust, the Managing Trustee, Kunil Bhalla informed that many HBET students are now contributing to society as successful professionals-engineers, teachers, scholars, architects and nurses.
Bhalia also announced that students desirous of pursuing nursing can apply for scholarship to the Trust.
The function of vibrant and colourful performances of dances, songs, poems by the children was followed by a Preeti Bhoj.
