Haryana boys, Manipur eves show brilliance to bag Gold medals

Gutsy J&K boys claim Sabre team Silver

JAMMU: Haryana boys won the Sabre team Gold, while Manipur girls continued their fencing brilliance by bagging Foil team Gold and J&K boys showed guts and grit, thus clinching Sabre team Silver in the 68th National School Games U-17 Boys and Girls Fencing Championship, which commenced at Gymnasium Hall University of Jammu here.

The Championship is as part of a record month-long series of 68th National School Games, being organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) in the disciplines of Judo, Fencing, Wushu and Football, wherein around 4000 athletes across the country are expected to take part.
This sporting extravaganza is being held under the patronage of Minister for Sports Satish Sharma; Secretary Youth Services and Sports Sarmad Hafeez and under the chairmanship of Director General Youth Services and Sports, Sh Rajinder Singh Tara.
Meanwhile, in the U-17 Boys Sabre team event, J&K’s quartet of Vinayak Sharma, Devansh Sharma, Satvik Bangotra and Vansh Raina displayed exceptional fencing skills to win Silver medal, while the Gold medal in this event was bagged by Livjot, Vansh, Lakshaya Sharma and Ujjawal. The Bronze medal went to Gujarat and International Board Schools Sports Organisation (IBSSO).
In U-17 Girls Foil, the quartet of Takhellamban Mangaleibi, Maibam Geetarani Devi, Laishom Thoithoi Chanu and Huiningshumban Tonibia Chanu of Manipur clinched Gold, while the Silver medal went to CBSE represented by the fencers namely Kanishka, Vandana, Yuvika Saikhedkar and Navisha Bhardwaj. The Bronze medals in this event went to Punjab and Gujarat.
Around 600 fencers including officials drawn from 21 States/UTs across the country are taking part in this event.
Earlier, Director General Youth Services and Sports Rajinder Singh Tara interacted with the players and formally inaugurated the bouts, while Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu Ved Prakash along with a galaxy of officers presented medals to the winners in a simple function.
Former International Fencer and International Referee Rashid Ahmed Choudhary is the Competition Director, while International Fencer and reputed Coach, Ujjawal Gupta, is the Competition Manager.
