Chandigarh:- Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today accused the Manohar Lal Khattar regime of making “hollow claims” on big investments flowing into the state through Pravasi Haryana Divas.
“In March last year, they claimed that the Global Investor Summit at Gurugram was a grand success. Later, they said investments close to Rs 7 lakh crore had been garnered as a result of MoUs signed during the event. Let them show what investments have flowed in and who has made these investments,” Hooda told reporters here.
“The government should tell which land has been acquired for which project and give full details,” he said.
Yesterday, Chief Minister Khattar said 24 MoUs involving potential investment of Rs 20,000 crore had been signed during Pravasi Haryana Divas, held in Gurugram this month, and these would provide employment opportunities to 43,000 people.
Khattar had also said the Divas was attended by 400 NRIs from 33 countries and 300 people who hail from Haryana but are living in different states of India.
“When NRIs were not willing to come, as a face saving measure, many were offered air tickets, to woo them, to attend (the event),” the two-time chief minister alleged.
Hooda also hit out at Haryana’s main opposition party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) for deciding to start digging the SYL canal on February 23 if the Centre fails to carry out the task.
After the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Haryana on SYL, political parties in the state have been demanding its early completion. However, parties in poll-bound Punjab, including ruling SAD, have vowed not a drop of water will leave the state.
“What is the need for INLD to say it will dig the canal.
They only want to mislead the people because they are hand-in-glove with the Akalis. Chautalas’ have always been protecting interests of the Badals rather than protecting Haryana’s interests on the SYL issue,” he alleged.
“The Supreme Court verdict has come in Haryana’s favour and the matter has been settled, the onus is on the Centre to get the canal constructed at the earliest,” he said.
“If INLD is serious about protecting Haryana’s interests, it should support and cooperate with the Congress so that together we can put pressure on the Centre to get this canal completed soon,” Hooda said.
On campaigning in the February 4 Punjab Assembly polls, Hooda reiterated, “If Amarinder Singh (Punjab Congress chief) assures me Haryana will get its due share of water through SYL when Congress forms government in Punjab, I have no problem in campaigning for the party.”
Hooda said he will actively campaign for Congress in the UP polls.
