Hailstorm hit crop damage assessed

JAMMU: The government on Monday informed that the report of survey conducted to assess damage to the fruit crops due to hailstorm in the month of April and September in Noorabad constituency has been submitted to Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam.
Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri informed this in the Legislative Assembly.
He further said that 75-80 per cent of Apple and Pear crop and 30-35 per cent of Walnut crop was damaged in district Kulgam in April last year due to hailstorm. “The district was hit by another hailstorm in September 2016 which damaged fruit crop over 2737.26 hectares area. The damage report has been submitted to DDC Kulgam,” he added.
“No action could be taken due to unrest in the Valley,” the Minister said, adding that government is launching Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Youjna (PMFBY) to take care of losses caused due to natural calamities. He also informed that government has no proposal to waive off loan beyond Rs 1 lakh availed under KCC scheme.
Meanwhile, the Minister also informed in the Legislative Assembly that the government working on modalities to regularise the engineers who have been promoted against various posts.
Finalising the seniority lists, which is the pre-requisite for promotion/regularisation of incumbents are being finalised and would be issued soon. The matter will be taken up with the PSC/DPC for doing the needful accordingly.
In the day, the Minister informed in the Upper House, that 10 road projects have been taken up in Nowshera at an estimated cost of Rs. 23.9 crore against which Rs 6.01 crore stands utilised till date.
He further said that construction work on road from Ganyia to top Langer, Bareri to Dhanaka, Nonial via Sakhnagala to Bhatta, Bhawani to Mangla Matta, Kampla to Pukherni, Kanara to Bassa, Laroka to Kanara, Bhawani to Laroka, Guni via Mangal Dei to Seri and Laroka to Kanara has been taken up under state plan, BADP and NABARD. He said out of Rs 6.01 crore works done, Rs 4.93 crore have been paid to the contractors from time to time.
