Gurpurab celebrated with religious fervour

JAMMU: 349th Gurpurab of tenth guru of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was celebrated with gaiety and religious fervour by the Parbandhak Committee, Gurdwara Baba Chand Singh Ji Jain Bazaar here on Thursday.
To mark the occasion, an impressive Kirtan Darbar was held in which Ragi Jathas recited Shabads from Gurbani. Sangat from Jammu city and surrounding areas reached the venue to become the part of celebrations. The cold wave failed to dampen the spirits of the devotees who reached Gurdwara early in the morning to offer prayers. A community kitchen was also organised for the devotees.
Shabad Kirtan was performed by Bhai Harbans Singh and Jatha, Bhai Sukhdev Singh and Parveen Singh. Addressing the gathering, Sukhbir Singh demanded early elections for District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees, renaming of Kunjwani Chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk, minority community status to Sikhs, removal of Municipal Committee shops in Chand Nagar falling in the precincts of Gurdwara, implementation of Ansari Commission report on 1989 and settlement of claims besides declaring the martyr days of Guru Arjun Dev Ji, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji and Prakash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh Ji as gazetted holidays.
The Committee members also supported the hunger strike of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Ji Khalsa on the issue of Sikh prisoners.
Amarjeet Singh, Surinder Singh Shinda, Gurmeet Singh, Gurnam Singh, Dr. Tejinder Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Shahbaz Singh, Jagbir Singh, Jagjeet Singh and Surjeet Singh were also present on the occasion.
