JAMMU: With the growing city limits, Jammu needed more stadias and play fields to attract the youth, who otherwise have been left with little options to explore the possibilities in the world of sports.
This was stated by former Minister and MLA, Sham Lal Sharma at the inaugural of the 24th J&K UT Sport Climbing Championship, organised by Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing wall in the Sprawling Buds ICSE School campus, Bantalab, here.
The local MLA was speaking to the gathering of young climbers, who represented different districts of the UT of J&K.
Earlier, the organisers had a tough time to complete the preliminary rounds of the competition in view of the growing participation of about 400 boys and girls from 11 districts of Udhampur, Reasi, Anantnag, Samba, Srinagar, Pulwama, Budgam, Shopian, Doda, Kulgam and Jammu.
While addressing the distinguished gathering of the two days championship in which over 400 climbers are participating, the chief guest said that there was great need of another stadium in Jammu city because of the expanding area and population. Prominent among others present on the occasion included Zorawar Singh Jamwal, president; Ram Khajuria, senior vice president and Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary of MAJK; Rahul Sharma, chairman and Ramesh Khajuria, Director of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu; Arti Sharma, chairperson Apple Kids International Pre School, Bantalab, Jammu, general secretary District Mountaineering Association Jammu, Sonam Sidharth and office bearers of District Mountaineering Associations of Udhampur, Reasi, Anantnag, Samba, Srinagar, Pulwama, Budgam, Shopian, Doda, Kulgam besides Jameel Mustaffa, president of Sunridges Trekking and Mountaineering Club, Pulwama as also managers and coaches of various participating institutions.

President of the Association Zorawar Singh Jamwal stressed the need to promote more and more sports with necessary infrastructure so that the youth of the UT can be saved from the ill effects of drugs. The two-day championship is being organised by Mountaineering Association of J&K in collaboration with Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu under the aegis of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi and sponsored by J&K Sports Council.
