STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Green Warriors of MS Swaminathan Club at JK Public School Kunjwani conducted a special Assembly to sensitize the audience for celebrating an Eco-friendly Diwali. Eco-friendly means “earth friendly”, that is, which does not cause any damage to our environment.
Green warrior Aanya threw light on the importance of Diwali. She reflected, “Diwali is the festival of lights. It is celebrated for five days in some states. It is celebrated by Hindu community all over India. It is celebrated for Lord Rama coming back to their home after 14 years of exile / vanvas. Diwali is celebrated by firecrackers and sweets. People light their homes with beautiful diya. Overall, Diwali is a festival that brings happiness to all of us”.
Pitching in with his brilliant observation Green warrior Anirudh shared, “We all know that Diwali is the festival which celebrates togetherness. Along with this goodness, here are a few things that are harmful for our environment like noise pollution, air pollution etc. Some of the tips to celebrate eco-friendly Diwali included the following: using beautiful Diyas to brighten your homes; gift something that is homemade; avoid using plastic; go for eco-friendly firecrackers; & make beautiful Rangoli with the use of natural material.
Another Green warrior Avni Sharma drew the attention of the audience towards some burning issues. He stated, “Diwali is the festival of light. However, along with this goodness, there are a few things that always make us concerned, like, air pollution, noise pollution and wastage of resources that can cause harm to the nature”.
Green warrior Mohd Faizan Bhat shared some brilliant ways of celebrating Diwali with the same fervor without burdening the environment. He requested the audience to try out a few viable solutions to tackle the problems of environmental issues. He shared, “Use beautiful diyas to brighten your home, instead of electric fairy lights. Gift homemade things, instead of plastic materials. Make Rangoli with natural material, like, flowers, turmeric etc instead of artificial colours. Donate your old things needy and downtrodden, instead of throwing them. Go for eco-friendly crackers. Decorate your home, using homemade home décor. Ditch plastic for packaging”.
Various cultural activities were performed in different segments like Rangoli making, fancy dress, recitation from Ramayana and skit presentation. Class audience got thrilled on watching the theatrical skill and dialogue delivery from their classmates. The entire campus looked coloured, vibrant and joyous with the festivity of the day.
Vice Principal JKPS Shashi Rattan appreciated the students for such a meaningful Morning assembly. She highlighted the contributions of our religious scriptures, being the custodians of our cultural heritage, passed on from one generation to another. She recited and paraphrased the immortal shloka: ‘Astoma sad gamaya’, means, lead us from ignorance to knowledge. “Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya” , means lead us from darkness to light. “Mrityor ma amritam gamaya, means, free us from the darkness and usher us into the light.
Principal JKPS Kunjwani Rajesh Rathore lauded the passionate endeavours of Green warriors and wished the audience and their members of the family a very happy & prosperous Diwali. He invoked students “to think big and act big”. He made them resolve taking utmost care of the Mother Nature and keep her as happy & vibrant as their Inner-self on the day of the festival. “Let us celebrate Diwali not with firecrackers, but with spreading love and happiness”, he summed up.
Students promised to help out their parents during the interior & exterior décor of the house. They also resolved performing the minor errands assigned to them, while the elders of the family prepare sweets and other choicest dishes. They also gave their words to write a diary on a day-today basis, highlighting their contributions at home pertaining to the domestic affairs.
