Former Congress Minister Romesh Sharma passes away

JAMMU: Former Jammu and Kashmir Minister and senior Congress leader Romesh Sharma today passed away after a prolonged illness. He was 65. The whole Nowshera market was closed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Ex-Congress Minister and famous leader from Nowshera Constituency Sharma passed away
while undergoing a treatment at a hospital in New Delhi. His body was brought to Nowshera and cremated late in the evening today in the presence of public gathering besides prominent persons including politicians, social activists and bureaucrats who expressed their deep shock and grief on the untimely demise of popular leader.
Sharma who was also an Ayurvedic doctor, joined politics before the year 2000 and won the Assembly elections in 2002.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, condoled the sad demise of former Minister, Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma, who was not keeping good health for quite some time.
Paying rich tributes, Mehbooba Mufti said Dr. Sharma worked for welfare of the people all his life. She also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family members and close relatives in their hour of grief.
The Chief Minister prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh has condoled the demise of Balraj Madhok, a veteran leader who passed away in Delhi yesterday after a brief period of illness.
Describing him a leader of high integrity, Dr Singh said that he has contributed immensely in the socio-political sphere of the country since last six decades selflessly. He also worked tirelessly for the upliftment of weak and downtrodden sections of society besides being involved in other Philanthropic activities as well, the Deputy Chief Minister added.
The Deputy Chief Minister also condoled the demise of Dr Ramesh Chander, the former Minister who passed away yesterday at Delhi.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has deeply condoled the sad demise of Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma. In a condolence message, JKPCC Chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir described Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma as a selfless leader who served the people and the party with devotion and dedication.
He said that his death has created a void in the society and his valuable services would always be remembered in the party. Mir conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad, while expressing shock over the demise of Dr. Sharma, said that Dr. Sharma rendered valuable service to the people and the Congress Party during his life especially as MLA from Nowshera and as a Minister. Azad conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family and prayed for eternal peace to departed soul.
Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali condoled demise of Congress leader and former Minister Dr Romesh Chander Sharma who passed away today after a long illness.
Former Minister and senior Vice President PCC Sham Lal Sharma, former Minister and Vice President Raman Bhalla, Chief Spokesperson and former MLC Ravinder Sharma, Co-Treasurer Rajnish Sharma, General Secretaries Shabir Ahmed Khan, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Manmohan Singh, Anil Chopra, Ch. Bashir Naaz Ex- MLA, K.L Gupta and other senior leaders of PCC, DCC Jammu, Youth Congress, and Mahila Congress paid rich tributes to the departed leader.

Zulfkar along with MLC Surinder Chowdhary visited home of former Minister at Nowshera and expressed condolences and deep sympathies with the bereaved family.
Deputy Chairman Legislative Council Jahangir Mir expressed his deep condolences over the sudden demise of former Minister and MLA Nowshera Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma.
He also expressed deep sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
District Congress Committee Kathua held a condolence meeting on the sad and sudden demise of Dr Romesh Chander Sharma senior Congress leader and former Minister. Prominent among those present include Naresh Sharma Ex President MC Kathua, Kulbir Singh Pathania Secy PCC, Aradhana Andotra Secy PCC ,Narinder Khajuria General Secy DCC, Karan Bhagat, Yugal Kishore Bali, Subash Sharma Advocate Senior Vice-President DCC, Mohinder Singh ex Vice President M C Kathua and Rattan Chand S P (Retd).
Former Chairman J and K Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum, Sharafat Ali Khan condoled the sad demise of Dr. Romesh Sharma, former Minister and a brave Pahari leader, at a condolence meeting held here at Srinagar.
Being a veteran leader from the Congress Party, he always stood for the betterment of his people and worked tirelessly for the cause of Paharis of the entire State. Those who attended the meeting spoke about the good work that the deceased leader had done all through his life.
The former Chairman prayed for peace to the departed soul and showed sympathy with the bereaved family saying that Dr. Romesh Sharma would always be remembered by the entire community as a noble soul for the services he had rendered to the people over the years.
Those who attended the meeting include Lt. Col Sheikh Niyamatullah (Retd), Shabir Ahmad Beigh, Mubarak Ahmad Khan, Umar Gul, Ghulam Hassan Khan, R.A Masoodi, G.Q Lone and Qazi Mohammad Sheikh.
Former Minister and General Secretary PCC, Abdul Majid Wani also condoled the sad demise of former Minister, Romesh Chander Sharma.
Wani also expressed deep sympathies with the bereaved family. He prayed to Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family members to bear this irreparable loss.
