Govt to revive defunct tube-wells: Sham

REASI: Reiterating the commitment of Government for providing pure drinking water to the people of State, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary said that the government has formulated a comprehensive plan for taking up new and improvement of existing Water Supply Schemes to augment the water supply to meet the requirements.

The Minister said this after laying the foundation of dug well of Water Supply Scheme (WSS) at Laiter village of Reasi District on Saturday. Minister of State for Finance and Planning Ajay Nanda was also present on the occasion.

The project will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.15 core and with the completion of this project about 3000 souls of dozens of villages of the area will get benefit. The project will augment the capacity of existing WSS Laiter.

The minister said that the present government has formulated a plan for revival of defunct tube wells so that adequate potable water is provided to the people. On the occasion, on public demand, the minister announced installation of 10 hand pumps in the area besides check dam would also be constructed to harness the available water resources in the area.

Complementing the people, the Minister of State (Mos) for Finance and Planning Ajay Nanda said that the construction of dug well and WSS was the long pending demand of the locals. He said that work on two ongoing schemes in the area is nearing completion and more schemes would be taken in future.

Later, the ministers attended fifth Ati Vishnu Maha Yagya being performed at Pouni by Sant Shri Balak Yogeshwar Dass ji for the peace of the souls of Martyred soldiers of the country.

Earlier, the minister chaired public redressal camp held at SDM office Chowki Choura in which scores of individuals and deputations thronged from Chowki Choura, lower Choura, Rameen Makhan, Ghar, Dannu, Silout, Jhang and adjoining villages participated. They projected their demands particularly related to provision of potable water.

The minister also directed the concerned engineers to complete the work on the ongoing PHE projects in the area so that the requirement of safe drinking water is metted out. He also asked to formulate plan for construction of check dams to tap the available water resources in the area.

Among others, Chief Engineers PHE and Irrigation and Flood Control, SDM Chowki Choura, besides concerned engineers attended the camp.
