Govt to sell maize at Rs 1 per Kg: Zulfkar

JAMMU: In an effort to promote cultivation of maize in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government is planning to procure 2,000 metric tonnes of maize on trial basis which will be sold to consumers at Rs 1 per kg under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
“To encourage maize farming and facilitate farmers of the state, the government is planning to procure 2,000 metric tonnes of maize on trail basis which will be provided to people at Rs 1 per kg under NFSA,” State Minster for Food, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali said.
The minister who conducted a review meeting of the department directed the officials to freeze the data by October 20, so that the process of shifting to online system would be expedited.
He also asked them to acquaint themselves with the provisions and rules of NFSA for better results.
Speaking on the issue of decayed food grains, the minister directed to constitute a committee which will compile the report and further dispose of the decayed food grains.
The minister asked the officers to refer all the vacant posts lying with the department to the recruiting agencies so that the field functionaries will ensure a foolproof Public Distribution System (PDS) in place for fulfilling the ambitious endeavor of the government to benefit the consumers of the state.
