‘Govt providing security cover to 1,890 protected persons’

SRINAGAR: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari on Tuesday said that there are 1,890 protected persons in the State who are being provided security by the government.
Responding to a question raised by Javed Ahmad Rana in the Legislative Assembly, the minister said that 634 vehicles have been deployed with 373 protected persons, besides 284 political persons have been allotted secured hotel accommodation.
He informed that the total monthly expenditure on account of salary of PSOs, static guard, escort, fuel and hotel accommodation of 1890 protected persons and 284 political persons is Rs 21.04 crore.
The minister said that the salary of police personnel other than SPOs deployed as PSOs or on guard/escort duties with protected persons is being borne by the
state government while the transportation and accommodation are being reimbursed by the Union Ministry of
Home Affairs.
The minister said that the security cover to the protected persons is provided as per the guidelines of Union Ministry of Home Affairs and is periodically reviewed by the Security Review Coordination Committee constituted by the State Government.
