Govt should not take PoK refugees for granted: Chuni
STATE TIMES NEWS
Nowshera: “Government should not take PoK refugees for granted because they have completely understood the cunning approach of government that is completely ignoring the concern of PoK refugees. PoK refugees can make the government and their representatives accountable only when they will stand united. The period of our exploitation will end once we don’t let political parties to create divide in our community. I appeal to my fellow PoK refugees not to fall prey to the evil designs to give them any further chance to make their political ground”, this was stated by Chairman SOS International – An organisation for PoK Displaced Persons Rajiv Chuni on Sunday in a massive rally held at Thakurdwara, Nowshera.
“Recently, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly passed a resolution for the return of KPs to Valley. The Valley which means Kashmir; the Kashmir where BJP is sharing power today with its ally PDP; the Kashmir which chooses 46 out of 87 MLAs; the Kashmir where thousands of KPs today are doing government jobs, business, farming and living there peacefully. By passing such a meaningless resolution, Government has proved that ‘Survival of the fittest’ is their hallmark”, he stated in a jam-packed rally.
While addressing the rally, SOS International Chairman said that he is amazed to witness such sort of stupidity of passing quite illegitimate and laughable resolution which has no essence at all. “There was no need to bring such resolution for the return of KPs to Kashmir Valley as they are very much part and parcel of Kashmir. The fact of the matter is government itself is encouraging KPs to remain outside the Valley by providing them royal treatment which KPs won’t let it go”, he said. “Therefore, it is evident that resolution is just eyewash because all the successive governments have Kashmir in centre by neglecting all other displaced persons of Jammu and Ladakh province and current PDP-BJP Government is also following the footsteps of its predecessors. It has to be understood that resolution was just an excuse, in reality Kashmir has to kept in limelight. Kashmir has to be kept in publicity which can be understood by various events happened in the time span of two years since PDP-BJP coalition held the reins of power in State. First, it was in news for Kashmir unrest and now, when Kashmiri legislators observed that there were no talk of Kashmir, the weird resolution was brought into the House by Omar Abdullah to keep the Kashmir back in talks. The proceedings of house have always been Kashmir Centric and Kashmiri leadership won’t miss any chance to bring Valley in public eye”, Chuni alleged. SOS International Chairman further said that if resolution was required then it is required for PoK refugees who have been living their lives under extreme misery for the last seven decades but none of the MLA has cared about it in Jammu and Kashmir. “PoK refugees were promised that they will be restored in their ancestral places and in 1994, Parliament of India passed a resolution which states ‘PoK is an integral part of India and it shall be vacated’. The 1994 resolution was incomplete because the rehabilitation of PoK refugees who are today swelled to 12 lakh in number was not mentioned in the said resolution. PoK refugees haven’t been given refugee status after the lapse of seven decades as we were told that we would be restored back in our native places but it could not happen. There is need to provide succour to PoK refugees who have seen very tough times and they can’t go back. The process of ditching PoK refugees is still rampant and MLAs are adding fuel to fire by instigating their emotions because they are the foremost victims of Jammu and Kashmir problem. MLAs of Jammu have made the mockery of House and spoilt the decorum of House by passing resolution which was not needed at all”, he added.
“One of the MLAs of BJP from Nowshera, Ravinder Raina seems very vocal to support this useless resolution. Raina represents the Nowshera Constituency which is PoK refugees dominated constituency from where he was elected to Assembly. It is very surprising that Raina has been talking for Kashmir but he was not seen talking for PoK refugees whom he represents. What a drama being staged by him! He is talking on disgusting issues which has no relevance. If Raina had spoken over the plight of PoK refugees, something would have happened but instead of raising issues of PoK refugees who pave the way for him towards Assembly has ignored them quite ruthlessly”, Chuni added. He further said that PoK refugees are carefully watching the deeds of their MLA who are giving their nod by keeping their interest at stake. Chuni called upon PoK refugees to come on the platform of SOS International to give impetus to battle to protect further exploitation by various political parties. In the rally, Chuni reiterated SOS International’s commitment to bring much awaited justice to PoK refugees.
