VIJAYPUR: Former Minister and JKPCC General Secretary Manjit Singh on Sunday accused government of providing all possible help to the militant’s families and ignoring nationalist people of Jammu. Former Minister was speaking during a meeting at Galad village of Samba District before the Displaced Persons who expressed strong resentment against the government’s stand over the compensation.
“The government should give compensation to the DPs as per the recommendations of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC),” he said, adding that the present compensation of Rs 5.5 lakh is unacceptable and government should disclose about the total amount of compensation which the government is going to give to the DPs. He termed it injustice with those who stood by army and BSF on the borders and fought for the country but the government has ignored their plight and genuine demands.
“PM Narindra Modi used to assure these DPs that they would be given over Rs 50 lakh compensation but it never happened and instead, the amount has been reduced to Rs 5.5 lakh,” he added. He further demanded property rights on the land which is allotted to the DPs of 1965 and 1971.
He also demanded reservation of jobs for the children of DPs. He also demanded that Govt should constitute Displaced Person Development Board for the upliftment and development of DP’s Bastis.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion include Ex-sarpanch Darshan Singh, Ex-sarpanch Anil Choudhary, Capt Tirath Singh, Om Prakash, Jagdish Raj and Partap Choudhary.
