Govt to contemplate inclusion of Dogra history in textbooks

JAMMU: Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar on Wednesday informed the House that the government would consider inclusion of more information in school books about the steps taken during Dogra rule for welfare and overall development of the State.
He further said the Education Department will recommend introduction of chapters in history books about the steps taken by the Dogra rulers which include making education compulsory and steps taken for the development of Horticulture, floriculture and augmentation of Irrigation network.
While replying to a question raised by Ajatshatru Singh, the Minister said the academic curriculum is prepared by conducting workshops to decide the content.
The subject experts from DIETs/SIEs/Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools, experts from Universities, Cultural Academy and academic officers of different subjects are associated in the process of curriculum development, he added.
He said after preparation of textual material/contents, the same are placed before the Academic Committee of the J and K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) for approval. The implementation/ introduction of curriculum is made at the beginning of academic session, he stressed.
The Minister informed that JKBOSE syllabus includes chapter/references on Dogra rule in the history books as also in Dogri textbooks of different classes. Legislators Ramesh Arora and Vikramaditya Singh also asked supplementary questions on the floor of the House.
