Govt committed to enhance sports facilities: Satish Sharma

SRINAGAR: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, along with MLA Khanyar, Ali Muhammad Sagar on Saturday visited Zaznar ground Brane-Nishat and assessed the sports related infrastructural needs in the area.
The Minister was apprised of several issues including levelling of playfield, construction of pavillion, washrooms and fencing.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Omar led government is keen in revitalising and upgrading the sports infrastructure. “It is endeavour of the present dispensation that a comfortable and favourable environment is created for sportsmen to excel in various sports”, he maintained.
“Sports has the potential and scope of saving youth from being swayed towards drugs and other social ills by channelizing their energies in the right direction. We are trying our bit to provide ample sports infrastructure besides ensuring growth of lesser known sporting disciplines having potential in the UT”, the Minister maintained.
He said the Government is focusing on unearthing young talents as sports have a prospective to foster a positive social change besides improving health standards. He stressed that the purpose to provide world class facilities to the players is to have best of the sportspersons to represent J&K in various tournaments while assuring all possible Government help in this regard.
The Minister gave on spot directions to Youth Services and Sports department for providing pitch roller in the ground by this Monday.
The Minister also met many delegations who apprised him of their issues regarding transport facilities, food supply, cleanliness of lakes, upgradation of sports amnesties, seeking redressal of the same.
On the occasion, the Minister announced bus service from Ishber Nishat to Hazratbal via Foreshore Road commencing from tomorrow.
MLA Khanyar hoped that the departments assigned to Satish Sharma will see tremendous development in the region.
The Minister was accompanied by Director FCS&CA, Secretary Sports Council, CEO JKEDA and senior officers from transport, LCMA, YS&A.
