Govt. announces ex-gratia norms during polls

JAMMU: The government has accorded sanction to the payment of ex-gratia relief in case of any mishap during the conduct of elections in the State.
The ex-gratia has been sanctioned in favour of the State Government employees including security / police personnel and drivers / conductors of the hired vehicles deployed for election duty.
In case of death while on election duty, an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 10 lakh, in case of death due to violence Rs. 20 lakh, in case of permanent disability due to normal reasons Rs. 5 lakh and in case of permanent disability due to violence Rs. 10 lakh has been sanctioned.
The payment of the above ex-gratia compensation will also be applicable to the CAPs/SAPs and other security forces personnel deployed for the election duty and this will be in addition to the compensation already being paid by the MHA under extant guidelines issued by DOP and PW, MHA and State Governments.
The applicable period of election duty would start from the date of the announcement of the elections.
