Governor meets Shrine Board Members, PHE Secretary

JAMMU: Dr. S.S. Bloeria and B. B. Vyas, Members Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here last evening.

Governor had extensive discussions with both the Members about issues relating to the functioning of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal; time bound completion of Tarakote Marg, the new 7.4 Km road from Katra to Adhkuwari; and certain pressing matters relating to management of the rapidly enhancing challenges facing the pilgrimage.

Meanwhile, M. Raju, Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, accompanied by  Ashok Gandotra, Chief Engineer PHE also met the Governor and  discussed issues relating to the increasing requirement of water supply for the pilgrimage and to meet the requirements of the Shrine’s supporting establishments. After discussions it was agreed that Secretary PHE shall hold a further meeting with CEO Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and other concerned officers for a complete review and assessment of arising demands.

Raju also briefed Governor about measures being taken for augmenting drinking water supply and irrigation facilities in various parts of the State for effectively meeting the existing and the speedily increasing demands in both these sectors and status of utilization of the available resources under various Central schemes. Governor advised high priority attention to the Jhelum dredging project.

Balwant Thakur, Regional Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) J&K and Director Natrang met the Governor and apprised him about the activities undertaken by the ICCR Regional Branch Jammu during the past year and the programmes planned to be organized in 2018.  He also informed the Governor about the dramatic performances staged by the Natrang Group with a particular focus on the preservation and promotion of the traditional art forms of the Jammu region.

Complimenting Thakur for his continuing contribution towards strengthening theatre activities in the State, Governor pointed to the usefulness of enlarging the performance of street plays which disseminate powerful social messages and highlight the problems of the common masses.
