JAMMU: The transport organisations, ferrying essential supplies in Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday warned an “indefinite strike” and halted supply of commodities in the Kashmir alleging attacks on their trucks in the Valley.
“From next week onwards we have decided to proceed on an indefinite strike in the Valley if government fails to provide foolproof security to the drivers and cleaners of trucks,” President of All Jammu and Kashmir Goods Carrier Association Jammu, Harbans Singh, said.
Expressing concern over the recent incidents of stone pelting on the trucks belonging to Jammu province engaged in transport of ration and other essential commodities to Kashmir Valley, he said instead thanking some of the miscreants of the Valley are beating, looting and pelting stones on the trucks.
Moreover, he said, government and other law enforcing agencies seem to have failed to provide safety and protection to the drivers and trucks.
Now under these circumstances, he said, drivers don’t feel safe to travel to Kashmir Valley, therefore, association request government to ensure safety and security to them as soon as possible failing which association has decided to go on a strike from next week till improvement of situation and all the supplies through the trucks to Valley and other parts shall be stopped.
