Govt orders closure of educational institutions between May 21-28

JAMMU: Jammuities! Get ready to be baked in the next couple of days as the soaring mercury levels are expected to touch 44 degree Celsius on May 23 before the onset of showers to douse off the heat wave here in the city of temples.
The weathermen have, however, predicted the much needed respite would come only on May 24-25 in the form of fresh showers.
For the past couple of days the local residents are suffering the nerve racking heat with maximum temperature soaring to record high of this season at 43.2 degrees on Thursday.
On Friday the mercury level was recorded at 41.8 degrees bringing much needed respite to the residents following brief spell of rain coupled with high speed winds.
The neighboring areas of Jammu in Katra, Udhampur and Patnitop witnessed heavy rains bringing much needed respite from heat wave conditions.
Responding to the advisory issued by the state Met department the state education department too has decided to close down the educational institutions between May 21-28 in the wake of worsening heat wave conditions in the summer zone.
Commissioner Secretary School Education Shaleen Kabra issued a circular to close down all the educational institutions including private schools between May 21-28 following intense heat wave conditions. On the other hand, doctors have been advising the local residents to avoid venturing out under the blazing sun and drink as much water as possible to avoid dehydration. The children and senior citizens have been advised not to step out if there is no pressing need to move out of the house.
