SRINAGAR: In an unprecedented show of strength, scores of general category people irrespective of their caste, creed, colour and religious affiliations hailing from all parts of Kashmir Province including far off areas like Anantnag, Shopian, Bandipora and Budgam under the ambit of Jammu Kashmir General Category Welfare Forum (JKGCWF) staged a strong sit-in protest at Press Enclave Srinagar against reservation in promotions.
JKGCWF is an amalgam of various social organisations and sects fighting for the cause of general category people on the issue of reservation on economic basis.
Syed Shamim Ahmed Chairman JKGCWF informed the public gathering of the mischievous design of certain MLAs who have formed an unholy consortium irrespective of their party affiliations to pursue their nefarious objective of seeking passage of Bill overruling the judgment of High Court striking down the Reservation in Promotion Rules 9,10 and 34 and Section 6 of Reservation Act 2005.
“JKGCWF made general category people aware of the ill conceived actions of these MLAs, who contemplated to introduce Private Members Bill in the Legislative Assembly on the issue of Reservation in Promotions. The action of these MLAs speaks volumes of the brewing hatred among them against General category masses and they have breached the oath of Constitution taken by them while assuming the charge. They have built an unholy consortium on the basis of caste to seek murder of merit and seniority”, he added.
Er. Daljeet Singh expressed serious concern and displeasure over the conduct of these MLAs who have been voted to power by all irrespective of caste, colour and creed. “Now their approach has become partisan as is evident from the fact that they are trying to bring amendments to overrule the justice delivered by Judicial system after thorough scrutiny of rules/ merits of case in vogue”, he added.
Syed Altaf Andrabi Patron, JKGCWF spoke about the grave injustice being meted out to general masses by way of providing caste based reservation. “Reservation if at all needs to be provided must be on economic basis irrespective of caste, creed and colour”, he asserted. G M Akhoon and Aadil Ramzan also addressed the gathering.
Joint Action Commitee led by its Convener Ved Parkash Sharma and Aarakshan Virodhi Manch also extended complete support to the agitation.
