JAMMU: Nothing can be more atrocious and deceitful than Kashmiri separatists crying hoax over repression and oppression by the Indian state in the Valley. Taking high moral grandstand over their so-called ‘movement’ by invoking religion, they shamelessly indulge in brazen lies and try to mislead the international opinion, which is why there is no takers now across the globe, not even in the Muslim world.
What can be the degree of ‘repression’ for Syed Ali Shah Geelani (also nicknamed as Geelani Qalander for issuing weekly protest calendars during past over 100 days) than his dare-devil act of shooting a letter to constitutional head of the State, Governor N. N Vohra, with most derogatory, unparliamentarily and indecent intro, addressing, “as the primary agent of Indian rule in occupied Jammu and Kashmir….”. Geelani Qalander seems to be in love with the word ‘agent’. He has to be; for the simple reason of so many of his ilk being chronic Pakistan agents in Kashmir, charged with the responsibility of putting the Valley aflame and sending generations to martyrs’ grave-yards. That is what they have been doing for the past twenty six years unabatedly.
In principle, Geelani Qalander should not have shot a letter to any of the ‘Indian agent’; no matter how hard has he been pestering officials and Track-II activists, behind the veil, for getting concessions, free air jaunts and treatment in premier hospitals of the country.
In his letter, which he released to media well before being delivered at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar, Geelani Qalander’s script writer writes, “Your state used all means of repression in the book including, systematic sexualized violence, to subdue our movement for freedom and justice”. He has coined a new term “sexualised violence” ignoring the sensitivities it involves in sensitive Kashmir. He is trying to put a sort of stigma to the society by giving an impression of dis-honouring a most respected segment of society. This is not a fact, which the people of Kashmir and he himself knows well. By stooping so low, Geelani Qalander is discrediting the society and raising doubts of sorts. There must be some hidden agenda behind using such terminology. The separatists like Geelani Qalander have a method in their madness, like indoctrinating poor youngsters for achieving martyrdom to reach Janat and ensuring their kin lead luxurious life and pursue careers in safe environs.
Geelani Qalander writes to the Governor, “The past seventy years are a testimony to the courage, fortitude, resistance, resilience and repeated resurgence of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. … You very well know that the problem of Kashmir is essentially a political problem in need of a political solution. Because of the non-resolution of this issue the whole region lives in a state of fear, uncertainty and mistrust. Wars have been fought, thousands of lives lost, blood spilled but to no avail”. Is he so naïve about of realities of Jammu and Kashmir, which he describes as a nation? When he tends to be the self-styled Messiah and conscience keeper of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, does he and his ilk include 25 BJP MLAs as part of his ‘nation’ which wants to secede from India, least to speak about Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and entire lot of Kashmiri mainstream leaders, who swear by the Constitution of India? Geelani Qalander is living in illusions and unfortunately he has made the people of Kashmir to see the reality through a tinted prism.
Perhaps irked by ‘we care two-hoots’ attitude of New Delhi, Geelani Qalender has shot the letter out of frustration, in a bid to seek attention. The urge and desperation is discernible in the message he has conveyed to the Governor, stating ‘the problem of Kashmir is essentially a political problem in need of a political solution.’ This is just an olive branch to the Centre to initiate dialogue process, as a face saver to wriggle out of the situation Kashmir is currently in. The hard-core hawk has gone nuts on seeing writing on the wall, with people defying his diktats and struggling to resume normal life after over 100 days. He knows that time is trickling against tide and the day is not far when people of Kashmir will come out against the separatist Geelani Qalender’s letter …
amalgam, essentially dominated by Jamaat-e-Islami. He must not have forgotten how the same Kashmiris uprooted orchards of Jamaat-e-Islami cadre across the Valley and made Jamaat activists hide themselves in their rat-holes when General Zia-ul-Haq sent Prime Minister Zulfkar Ali Bhuttoo to gallows on 4th April 1979 in Rawalpindi. Is history going to repeat itself when Geelani Qalander will find himself as a spent-force?
