KATHUA: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC),NSS, Red Ribbon Club, NCC and Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Club of Govt. Degree College for Women Kathua celebrated the “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on Tuesday. An awareness lecture was organized on this occasion. Dr A.K Gupta from Gupta Hospital and Research Centre was the resource person. Dr Sangita Nagari, Principal of the college, was the chief guest of the occasion. The program was inaugurated by lighting of lamp by the chief guest, Resource person and faculty members. It was followed by welcome speech by Dr Sangita Nagari, Principal of the college. In her speech, she highlighted the need to create awareness about the drug menace in the society. She motivated the students to adopt healthy life style and refrain from drugs. She reiterated that the students can play a pivotal role in creating awareness about drug-de-addiction in the society. She emphasised upon the need to raise mass awareness against the drugs abuse and its ill effects.
Further, on this occasion, Dr A.K.Gupta, Resource Person, talked in detail about the ill effects of use of drugs. He briefed that the Drug menace is one of the major challenges in the society. It not only ruins the abuser but also the family and the whole society. It can be eradicated only through awareness and prevention, and our fight is with the drug menace, not with the addicted persons. He appealed each and every one to join hands in the fight against the drug menace. He exhorted upon the need to rise against drug abuse and enhance cooperation to achieve a drug-free society.
The proceedings of the program were conducted by Dr. Arun Dev Singh. Prof Ravinder Kour, IQAC Coordinator, presented the vote of thanks.Dr. Naresh Sharma, Prof Shivani Sharma ,Prof. Som Raj, Prof Barun Kumar Bhatti and Roshan Lal Sharma (PTI) were also present in the function.
