GCW Parade organises inter-college symposium

JAMMU: Government College for Women (GCW), Parade organised Inter-College Symposium on the topic ‘Democracy and Electoral Participation’ in the college auditorium. Students from seven colleges participated in the symposium. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr. Renu Goswami, Principal GCW Parade. The jury of the competition comprised of Dr. Chanchal Dogra, Prof. Veena Gupta, Ex-Principal (Retd.) and Prof. Sneh Sambyal.
The programme began with the welcome address by the principal who said that participation in systems of governance is fundamental to any healthy democracy and such participation is often enshrined by legislative means. The students were of the opinion that they have taken their freedom for granted as they did not have to fight for it. So it is high time they should do their duties by voting for the right candidate.
They agreed that an active electoral participation is necessary. Voting, they said is not just their right but their biggest responsibility.
The first prize went to Kunal Saini from GGM Science College, second and third prize went to- Manik Sharma of Government MAM College and Poorva Prabha of SPMR College of Commerce respectively. Senior faculty members including Dr. Sunita Sudan, Prof. Avinash Gupta, Dr. Sandhya Bhardwaj, Dr. B.B Anand, Prof. Amrit Kour and Prof. Shivali Gupta were present on the occasion along with the students of the college. The programme was compered by Mutqeen Khan and Hiteshi Badyal. Vote of thanks was presented by Mutqeen Khan, Vice President of the College.
