Full Court designates 25 Senior Advocates after five years

JAMMU: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, in its Full Court meeting on Tuesday, designated 25 lawyers as Senior Advocates, nearly five years after the last such exercise was undertaken in December 2020.
The exercise, conducted in terms of the J&K and Ladakh (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2025, followed a rigorous selection process that evaluated 45 applications. The criteria included professional standing, length of practice, quality of advocacy, merit, integrity, reputation, and due emphasis on diversity and inclusiveness at the Bar.
Among those designated are Surrinder Singh, Shabir Ahmad Naik, Tahir Majid Shamsi, Syed Manzoor Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad Chashoo, Aseem Kumar Sawhney, Deepika Mahajan, Ravinder Sharma, Rakesh Kumar Chargotra, Masooda Jan, Amit Gupta, Tasaduq Hussain Khawaja, Chander Sheikher Gupta, Vishal Sharma, Nirmal Kishore Kotwal, Rameshwar Prasad Sharma, Ajay Sharma, Shah Mohd., Sakal Bhushan, Rajnish Raina, Shabeena Nazir, Rohit Kohli, Raman Sharma, Anupam Raina and Shivani Jalali Pandita.
The Court said the move was aimed at “recognizing professional excellence while ensuring fair representation of different sections of the Bar.” The newly designated Senior Advocates will assume their roles upon furnishing undertakings under Rule 5 of the said rules.
