The twitter politician Omar Abdullah has a first take on Myanmar surgical operation that killed herd of terrorists and sent chill across the neighbourhood. He feels the revelation (statements) of the operation has proved counterproductive after denial by Myanmar. A politician, who has served as India’s youngest Minister of State for External Affairs, ironically in partnership with BJP, should have believed his own country rather than a nation that has been providing safe haven to terrorists. What does the former Chief Minister mean by saying ‘amazing self goals’? Is he mocking at the strength of the nation to make such a thing happen? He is! But Pakistan does not believe so. The terrified leaders across the border are making convulsion over this military development with former President General Parvez Musharraf threatening of nuclear arsenal. Having little understanding about analyzing human psychology, which Omar Abdullah has in immense measure, the fact remain that most of Pakistani leaders, generals and politicians are scared, like their lackeys in Kashmir. This scare has manifested in a unanimous resolution passed by the Pakistan’s Senate, condemning the “provocative and hostile” statements which it said reflected the Indian “hegemonic mindset”. Omar Abdullah is falling in the enemy’s trap. This is reflected by his latest tweet, “What an amazing self goal!!! Next time you have a good covert Op, let the Op speak for itself and leave the chest thumping for the campaigns.” National Conference Working President should also understand that Pak reactions would not have come had the operation taken place on Indian soil, as claimed by someone in Myanmar.
Instead of devoting his time on unwarranted tweets, Omar Abdullah should better have a sort of introspection. If required, he should emulate Rahul Gandhi and go on a sabbatical to ponder as to what went wrong that served a humiliating defeat to National Conference, once a premier political party of Kashmir. He will also learn that his lackadaisical approach towards governance had shattered the fort raised by Sheikh Abdullah. Mis-governance, corruption and unaccountability remained hallmark of his six years tenure, which was bestowed upon him by the Congress. Like his uncle Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, he too left nothing to chance to castigate the same Congress, day in and day out, which held out Kashmir anchor to him at the peril of its political future.
The single most failure of Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister has been lack of monitoring. He conceived and put in practice CM’s Grievance Cell that became a huge grievance itself because of complaints finding their way into some Babus dustbin. Same happened with Public Services Guarantee Act, which died its own death notwithstanding the concept being first of its kind in the entire country.
Omar Abdullah should introspect as to what entangled him into the death controversy of Haji Yousaf amid reports of kickbacks for getting entry into Legislative Council.
The former Chief Minister is crying hoarse over ‘begging bowl’ and offering to accompany Mufti Sayeed and his Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu to Delhi for getting funds without realizing who had created huge liabilities. He created such a mess that he found his political future uncertain ahead of the elections. Despite contesting from two places, he lost the one and won the other with razor thin margin. This should serve as alarm bell for the party which is still looking for a political space in the State. This is because he never showed seriousness in governance. What could be the height of non-seriousness than raking up most contentious issues like Armed Forces Special Powers Act and accession for the second half of his six years tenure?
The tailpiece came when in pursuit of remaining in power; he offered unconditional support to arch rival Peoples Democratic Party ahead of its tie up with BJP for forming the government in Jammu and Kashmir. Not once but several times, Mufti Sayeed snubbed him by taking no cognizance of his offer. Still, he kept on pestering for the support. This is how mightiest of the politicians fall from the grace. Instead of learning lessons from his shortcomings, he keeps on weaving a web of controversies by going to twitter, most of the times quite unnecessarily.
By denouncing those, whose support has been crucial for National Conference leaders in maintaining their fiefdom, Omar Abdullah is only carrying forward the legacy left by Sheikh Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah. While Sheikh Abdullah used to describe Congress as a gutter party, Farooq Abdullah had opened a third front against Indira Gandhi. No wonder that the former Chief Minister is also taking same route by denouncing both Congress and the BJP, once his buddies in the power game.
