From Hurt to Healing: Say No to Bullying & Yes to Empathy
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: “We are living in a world where kindness is needed more than ever; where our words and action matter. When we choose to lift someone up instead of putting them down, we are choosing to make world a better place”. With this impactful opening statement, Mehar of Grade IX B conducted the morning assembly along with her batchmates on the topic “Say No to bullying and Yes to change of mind” at JK Public School, Kunjwani.

The baton was taken further by Tajveer Singh, who enthralled the audience with his brilliant oration. He said, “As someone said, people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel. We often think bullying is only about hitting or shouting at someone, but bullying isn’t always loud and obvious sometimes. It may be a loathsome nickname, a scornful smile, silent looks or meaningless giggling etc”.
“It may seem small but even the smallest hings can matter a lot to a person receiving all these things. Nowadays, a person being bullied doesn’t react and keeps suffering silently as long as he can. And, at the time when he could not take it anymore they just had to let it all go by taking the most drastic step which is taking their own life”, he added.
More substance was added to the transaction by Harasees, “It is a strong emotional or physical infliction which has a lifetime effect on a person. Sometimes bullying reaches such a stage that physical abuse is also observed. In such cases rather than giving a cold shoulder we should raise voice against bullying. Instead of thinking that it would bring us to the wrong side of fame, choose what is right and not what is easy”, added Aditya.
“The Government of India has enacted Prohibition of Ragging Act 2011 to prohibit and eradicate ragging in educational institutions in India, and AICTE & MIC Regulation to address bullying within its various domains”, she summed up.
Prapti recited an extremely poignant poem titled “The Silent Struggle”, which portrayed its somber form in simple words:
“He was teased and hurt,
By age-mates, cruel and alike.
“What’s so bad?” they scoffed-
Ignoring the emotional strike”.
“They said, “It’s just words,”
Unaware of the wounds they spawn-
Of forgetting one’s truest self,
Of a gift now withdrawn”.
“And yet, they turned a deaf ear,
To a storm too fierce, too long.
By the time a hand reached out-
He had already gone”.
Under the segment Quotations, Aditya quoted Jeffrey Benjamin, “You will never reach higher ground, if you are pushing others down”. Aarav referred to Albert Einstein, “The world is a dangerous place to live in; not because of the people who are evil, but because of those who don’t do anything about it”. Akhilesh quoted John Max Green, “Bullying is not reflection of the victim’s character, but rather the sign of the bully’s lack of character”.
Appreciating the presenters of the morning assembly, Principal JKPS Kunjwani Rajesh Rathore stated, “Bullying, in any form – be it physical, verbal, or emotional- is a reflection of unresolved anger and misplaced power. It does not make one stronger; instead, it weakens the spirit of unity and scars the soul of friendship”.
“Each one of us deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued within the school walls. So from today onwards, let’s take a pledge for creating a positive ambience around from Hurt to Healing Say No to bullying and Yes to empathy”, he concluded.
