Fourth State Handball Championship concludes;District Jammu wins men’s title, Jammu Red women

JAMMU: District Jammu and Jammu Red lifted respective men and women titles of Fourth J and K State Handball Championship organised by J and K Handball Association (JKHA) in collaboration with J and K State Sports Council at MA Stadium, here concluded on Sunday.
In men final, District Jammu defeated STC by 31-16. Rahul was the top scorer, who netted 11 goals. Jammu Red outplayed Udhampur by 19-03 in women final with the help of Kashish Baru’s nine goals.
In the closing ceremony, State BJP President and MLA, Sat Sharma was the Chief Guest who gave away the winners and runners up trophies as also other individual prizes in the presence of Guest of Honour, Dr.S.M Bali, Chief Executive Officer Handball Federation of India.
While appreciating efforts of the association, Sat said the State is rich in sports talent and sportsmen from the State have proven their mettle at different national and international championships.
He said proper nurturing by the JKHA goes a long way in promoting the talent at different levels.
Earlier General Secretary of the JKHA, Ashwani Kumar Raina welcomed the guests and presented a brief note on the championship.
Among others present on the occasion were Ranjit Singh (Selector Handball Federation of India), Krishan Lal Treasurer and Mohammed Ashraf Parray Joint Secretary.
Today’s matches were officiated by Gaurav Sharma, Vikram Dogra, Chander Shekhar, Bhawana and Kartar Dogra.
