Four army men, 2 cops among 7 killed in accidents

RAMBAN/SRINAGAR: Seven persons including four army personnel travelling in a car died on the spot while two cops and another person were killed in separate mishaps in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
The army personnel were travelling in a Maruti Zen (JK02N6332) which was on way to Srinagar from Jammu when the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Shaitaani Nallah Banihal near Jawahar Tunnel on Friday killing four on the spot and leaving one injured, said a police officer.
The four killed have been identified as Rfn/M Pawan Kumar of JAKLI from village Bachyaal Tehsil, Jammu, Rfn/M Vijay Kumar of JAKLI, son of Rattan Lal of Gho Manhasan, Jammu, Omparkash son of Badrinath of Sunetar Ramnagar Udhampur and Pawan Kumar of village Dhanwal Akhnoor.
The injured has been identified as Joginderpal who was referred to Emergency Hospital Banihal and is stated to be critical.
A police team headed by SDPO Banihal Deeraj Singh Katoch, DySP Traffic National Highway, SHO Banihal Aijaz Wani and in charge police post Jawahar Tunnel Shameem Ahmad alongwith volunteers of Banihal Volunteers Rescue Group conducted the rescue operations.
Meanwhile, three people, including two police personnel, were killed and seven others injured in road accidents in Kupwara and Pulwama districts.
In Kupwara, two persons were killed and four others injured after their car skidded and fell into a stream in the Kralpora area, a police spokesman said.
The deceased have been identified as Head Constable Habibullah Lone and Ruqaiya Begum, he said.
In the other accident, two cars collided at the Barsoo area in Pulwama, killing a police constable and injuring three others, the spokesman said.
Constable Farooq was declared brought dead by doctors at a hospital in the district, he said.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir Munir Ahmad Khan has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the police personnel and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls, the spokesman said.
